What you need to know

The nation's first college cryptocurrency

ScrantonCoin can be used to pay for products and access exclusive discounts at local businesses. That includes food, drinks, and more — restaurants, markets, and other shops that join the network.

How it's done

ScrantonCoin uses an Ethereum blockchain to substantiate transactions. The public trail records transfers. Decision Lab is where you practice wallets, offers, and the ledger in the browser.

How to start

Start in the browser with Decision Lab — enroll, use the faucet, and walk through labs, the store, and certificates. Mobile apps (App Store and Google Play) are under maintenance; the browser gateway is the current way in.

New here? Choose how you join — student, business, or department. Clubs use the student path.

History

ScrantonCoin began in Fall 2018 as an educational experiment created by Dr. Ahmed Gomaa. It was designed as a campus-scale model of how a local digital currency can support student engagement, peer exchange, and local business participation — recorded on a public blockchain trail.

Today it is an educational ecosystem centered on Decision Lab: Earn → Transfer → Spend → Reflect. Early collaboration with faculty colleagues shaped the ideas and led to related publications, conference talks, and public lectures.

Thank you to the students whose work built the early application and site.
